TURNING MEN INTO monsters

As the young mare admires him, he too, admires her once she steps aside so that he could. The few white spots he could see on her made him want to look for more on her otherwise solid midnight colored skin. Her eyes were also captivating, but her ears left him curious. Vadim had never seen anyone’s ears look that way; hadn’t yet ventured his way to Salem to see any of the desert breed horses there that also had curved ears. So, ignorant, the stallion thinks it is something strictly of her own makeup. Another peak to his interest.

“Is he as scary as mine?” Vadim cannot help but ask as she looks over her shoulder, clearly looking for any traces of her father. Growing up in the Lagoon, he had seen his fair share of beasts, and was confident that this one would be no different. But Vadim was not so cocksure that he thought himself invincible, especially while he was hurt and unable to return to the beast he had already faced.

Just because he wasn’t scared, didn’t mean he wanted to call unwanted attention to himself.

Ears tossing out to the side, Vadim lowered his head slightly, instead of the proud height he usually held it. “I can’t leave yet.” he said a bit softer, almost matching her tone now, to stay as secret as she seemed to wish to make him. “I don’t know your name.” A dodge to the real reason he couldn’t leave, as if it wasn’t quite obvious on its own. But Vadim was curious nonetheless of the little shadow that had found him hiding here in this frigid, and otherwise unfriendly land.
