GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
you know the tune so the words dont matter

He was barely two-years, but Castillon already behaved as though he was a grown stallion. He accompanied his father on walks along the borders, listening intently as Zevulun passed down all the knowledge he’d obtained through leading here over the years. Castillon had many siblings and a father unconcerned with patriarchal views that only a son should be his successor. Despite these things, the young colt had already decided he would one day be entrusted with the Prairie when Zevulun was too old.

(A child could only fathom their father being too old to lead; He wouldn’t dare entertain the idea of Zevulun being completely gone before he would take the territory for his own.)

It didn’t help matters that, on the day he turned two, Zevulun had pulled him aside and told him he intended to make him one of the Prairie co-leads on his third birthday. Just one year away?! There were so many things he wanted to do; so many ways he wanted to make his father proud. His mind swam with the idea of recruiting many pretty young mares to cuddle up with him at night among the rolling hills. It wasn’t just his charm and positive outlook he’d inherited from his father, but a wandering eye and a large heart, too.

Hey! A cry caught his attention. Castillon frowned as he lifted his head high and snorted, stomping the ground and listening intently just as the next call drifted from a short distance away, Is anyone home?

The voice sounded feminine and young, two things that immediately piqued Castillon’s interest. He grinned and pulled his black-painted knees high to his chest, trotting forward and flagging his dark tail out behind him. The cocky grin he wore slipped off his mouth and his proud trotting faltered briefly as he crested the top of a sloping hill and looked down to see the young girl who’d cried out wasn’t alone. There was a stallion with her who Castillon could not remember having seen before. He slowed and looked briefly, suspiciously down toward them, considering calling out to beckon his father or one of the guardians in case there were going to be any issues.

But, that wasn’t the behavior of a future co-lead, now was it?

Castillion lifted his chin and trotted the short way closer to them. “I’m home,” he answered her with a bit of a grin, then slid a careful glance at the older stallion she was standing beside. “My name’s Castillon, my father leads here.” He explained, and couldn’t help but glance back at her. “What’s brought you both to the Prairie?”
