Scripps Continues To Show True Colors

While Scripps is bragging that they are now paying MMJs a decent salary (after a number of layoffs and cost-saving moves), it is not as fair as it seems.

Since California law requires salary disclosures in job ads, we know the MMJ openings at KERO (Bakersfield) and KSBY (Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo) pay around $64,000 a year.

But Scripps seems to come up short in other newsroom jobs.

KERO also has a Producer opening that pays around $59,000 a year, whereas KSBY has a Producer opening that pays just under $40,000 a year. Bakersfield (KERO) and Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo (KSBY) are markets 123 and 124, respectively.

How can a producer at one station make nearly $20,000 less than a producer at another station just a market higher?

Apparently, Scripps only plans to go so far with its much-touted salary improvements.

Just saying…
