Meadow

Two years came and went in the blink of an eye, and there was much that Margaret endured and was forced to learn… Made twice as problematic in that she was often accompanied by her young son who had grown into a handsome strapping young stallion. Tragedy never kept away for long, though. Zevulun disappeared, and something within Pumpkin shifted. He had gone from being playful, respectful, and mild-mannered to stubborn, willful, and downright cruel.

Today was no exception; ever since Zurok had laid claim to the Prairie, Margaret, and Pumpkin have pilgrimaged to the common in hopes of finding a new herd and home, since many of the Prairie have done the same, and Pumpkin was in a foul mood. They stood together in the Meadow where there was plenty of food... And yet? The young Palomino could be seen frequently pushing his roan mother. It doesn’t seem to matter whether or not he’s satisfied with what he’s taken from her; he wants more.

And so with a frustrated squeal, his pushing escalates into an outright attack; peppering her shoulder with angry bites.

Maggie would squeal, half-rearing as she turns and kicks at her mature son; but he is bigger and stronger than her, so this advantage only lasts a short while… Noticeably, when she turns to flee, she runs with stiffness to one of her back legs, and there were plenty of fresh bites upon her rump and shoulders… Which would have informed any onlooker that this abuse had been ongoing for a while.

It didn’t seem to matter how far the pony mare ran; the young stallion remained on her rear, ears pinned and head low, aiming to drive her… But his lack of direction, like a band stallion, would have spoken volumes to someone with experience in such things; that this had become a game of cruelty, rather than any sense of real direction.
