If your point is that Cali leads the nation, I think youre initial supposition is wrong.
The Left Coast is more "a whole different country" than even Texas claims to be.
Everything is overpriced, especially Real Estate, because except for the global warming of constant fires, everyone wants to live there but can no longer afford to. People are leaving for that reason.
Their politics are good but their influx of Hispanics because of a great climate has really strained state govt, which has also happened in Tx and Fla.
My sense is compared to most states, there IS no comparison.
That you even brought it up surprised me. We get very little news abt Cali other than the fires. And I no longer see they affect us culturally. I don't even know anyone fm there but the cost of living in the midwest and south is so much better assuming you're educated and have skills. My son tried it out there in upscale Irvine when he was doing a post-doc. They did another in Tx and one in Buffalo...no desire to go back to Cali, they've moved back to the middle of the country and planted roots. It's not KC but not that much different.
None of the media features assessing 'most liveable' ever mention Cali, have you noticed? Replies: There have been no replies.
