turn men into beasts

Tyr stands with the morning sun to his face, its beautiful colors splashed across the inky night sky as it rises further up into the heavens to start the new day. It is as he sees almost every day, without a cloud to mar the priceless painting. It is nothing like he has ever seen while living in the dark and damp confines of the Lagoon, and yet he still can’t help the longing inside him. To think that this sight is too good to be true. Too good for the likes of him. Although the air is cool now, later it would be humid and hot, not much different than the Lagoon. The thick vegetation that would conceal him from the sun’s hot rays, stifling any sort of breeze. Yet the array of colors from the birds and plant life was a perfect mirror reflection of what he saw now. The Ridge was pure in every sense, so why did he still feel like an outsider? A stranger, despite the seasons that have now gone by.

Glancing beside him, there was no one standing there. No one to enjoy the view with him on what felt like the edge of the world. His hooves only inches from the sudden sheer drop of rock and earth to the sand bar that stood between Atlantis and the sea. Only memories of their warmth haunted him, the driving force that had brought him here so that they could be happier; safer, than the confines of a brotherhood where even the most wretched could live. Tyr did not doubt it was worth it. He would make the same choice countless times. To sacrifice what he had always know, for the unknown, in the pursuit of something better for those he cared about. But would he ever be the same? Could he find some semblance of himself that made them stay, yet drifting like ghosts in this quiet place?

A heavy sigh escaped the stallion. His warm breath drifting away on the morning breeze, crisp from the water below, pushed the air up along the rock face to buffet him. Causing his forelock to drift across his forehead and locks of thick mane to dance along his neck. Tyr would leave soon, to patrol his borders and to find those pieces of his family scattered throughout the territory. But until then, he would simply enjoy this one thing that remained constant. The sunrise.
