Big Brown Bat - photo

Today I closed a window shutter in preparation for painting and was delighted to observe a roosting Big Brown Bat. It has been almost ten years since I have noted a bat roosting behind the shutters. Prior to that about five Little Brown Bats could always be found there during the warmer seasons. About fifteen years' ago, a horrendous fungus, White Nose Syndrome caused a 95% decline in Little Brown Bats such that they are now Endangered and all INat observations are obscured. Big Brown Bats are much less susceptible and are considered a species of Least Concern--INat has many records. Apparently the smaller species is showing some signs of resistance so they may come back eventually--I pray.
