Hey DD,
Thank you for the shout out. All is well with me here in WNY.
The big news is the Bills are playing the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, England on Sunday morning and our esteemed governor has relaxed the laws to allow bars and restaurants to serve alcohol earlier in order to accommodate the game.
You probably know as much as I do about the expansion at Turning Stone. They announced it in July with a few articles in the paper but no real news since then.
They are trying to expand their hotel capacity (of almost 300 rooms) and event center capacity (4,000 people) to attract more conventions that go to the larger casinos.
Their big draw now is the golf. They have two (2) world class courses plus three (3) others.
A far cry from the barn they built in July of 1993 to sell pull-tabs and tax-free gas and cigarettes.
A fronton would be nice (even a Magic City style court) but there is a small harness track (Vernon Downs "The Miracle Mile") just a few miles from Turning Stone and the thoroughbreds at Finger Lakes are an hour to the west and they would scream bloody murder if additional pari-mutuel wagering was introduced in the state.
On a historical note Jai alia was played at the old "Hippodrome" in New York City in the late 1930's.
I have often wondered if the Connecticut casinos (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun) have ever considered building a fronton and bringing jail alia back to the state.
Let me know if you are in the neighborhood kicking up your heels at the Tin Rooster as I would like to meet you some day
