Don't expect TV to be a 50 year career

Well, As a student of economics, I've always known one truth about running a corporation. We live and die with the consequences of our decisions. My view of affiliate TV, having been in int for the longest time, but now retired, is that with the satellite system, there's no value added for affiliate tv stations. Cable and the internet technology have replaced their reason for existence, to run the long lines from NY to the nation's cities and citizens. We can now receive programming without affiliate stations and the networks are playing around with bypassing them with their streaming services.

Your challenge is to hope they stick around so you can finish your work career without finding another way to put food on the table.

How did this happen? It started when the FCC let investor corporations buy up as many affiliate stations ans they wanted, not just six properties. Then came the satellites and the internet, making local tv stations an unnecessary middle man to deliver the service. Your days are numbered as society automates more Americans out of jobs paying their salaries and their health care.

This isn't rocket science. Same thing happened to the horse breeders and livery industry when Henry Ford invented mass producing cars, exactly 100 years ago.

As a boomer older than most of you, I've lived with and watched massive change all my life. It's your turn. Good luck, don't bitch, my advice is to get on a lifeboat before your ship sinks unless you're close to retirement so then you can just wait it out.

I bailed out in 1990 and got into computer technology that got me thru and put my kids through college till they left home. You young ens, well ya better vote DEMOCRAT, because the Republicans dont want you to have social security. Your future is being a Walmart greeter in your 70s unless you get some skills for when your TV jobs are gone! You've been warned, right here in Kansas CIty! Just sayin...
