It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness

bacardi

surrounded by darkness yet enfolded in light

Bacardi had been picking at the last of the green grasses tucked away at the base of a tree, when the sound of his name alerted him to someone approaching. Lifting his head, black rimmed ears tipped forward as lupine gold eyes rested on the large form of Voyager. Since giving him a tour of the Forest, and teaching him the way of the Islands, Bacardi had not seen the black stallion since. Largely it was part of staying busy. Burn had seen to him being mostly distracted, but he wouldn’t use that as an excuse to be negligent. Bacardi had just hoped for a bit of rest.

As Voyager approached him, his nervousness put Bacardi on edge. He had seemed like such a relaxed fellow before, but Bacardi didn’t know him well enough to judge whether this was out of character or not. Only when he revealed the reason for this meeting did the Forest King finally understand. Ulla. She must have come across Voyager somewhere in the Forest. Of course she would. For the better part of her life, they hadn’t shared it with anyone. Bacardi also hadn’t restricted her from going to that part of the Forest where Voyager now lived.

As if one child wasn’t already causing enough grey hairs.

“You ask a lot…. To still be new here.” Bacardi replied, his golden eyes narrowing in judgement as much as suspicion. It hadn’t been that long ago he was already contemplating what Ulla might do once she came of age, where she might call home next, but Bacardi wouldn’t stick her with Voyager for the simple convenience of it. Despite how easy it would be to control their relationship. “I’ll think about it, based on what my daughter has to say.”

Turning his head, Bacardi called out to Ulla as well as her mother, Grizel. It wasn’t just his call to make on Ulla’s future.
