Meadow

"Hey dumbass," the voice is sharp and familiar and Isengrim's ears flatten, nearly disappearing in his dark haphazard mane. It hadn't been intentional, leaving her behind, but he had to admit the quiet had been nice. At least for a little while. Despite the age gap between them, Isengrim loved Haleth dearly. (Even if she was his annoying baby sister.) His nostrils quiver as he sends a snort in her direction, turning from where he had been looking, and swishing his tail in her face as he passes.

"Guess you've figured out my plan, little shadow." His voice was rough, like the distant mountains to the north, but it lacked the aggression that he instead reserved for others. She was the opposite of him, white on black and black on white. They were two sides of the same coin. Haleth's existence was the only reason he was considering not going to the lagoon. It was the one place on the islands where she could not follow him, at least not safely.

Haleth and Azalais were the only things his grey heart truly cared for. "We? We aren't going anywhere right now." He tore himself away from the path to the lagoon he'd been mulling over and instead stepped a few paces away to a dark patch of grass. He lowered his head, pawing at the ground a few times before dropping himself with a thud and laying his head and neck on the ground dramatically.

"Can't go anywhere, thing my legs are broke." He thrust out his slightly furred legs, straightening them out almost completely. He'd never admit to acting like this, of course, if anyone ever asked but if his antics might make her smile, it was worth it. At least until the next time she got on his nerves.
