Ghosts whisper in my ears.

Nahawi picked the wrong place and certainly the wrong time for this. His eyes blew wide as saucers as the urge to raid left his system. Instead, the stallion looked to the mare that came at him wanting to send him to death's door sooner rather than later. His red dun fur grew slick with sweat as suddenly, his heart beat faster than he had ever felt before. His ears tucked tighter into his mane as he turned away from the stallion and looked at the mare. No longer was his tail high as he flattened it to his rump and lowered his head. As best he could, the stallion avoided the coming onslaught of hooves but he did not miss all and everything else thrown his way.

Letting out a cry of pain, the stallion watched as his body was grabbed at the neck by the mare. His body shuddered in pain as his eyes closed against her blunt teeth cutting through skin and into a bit of muscle. He was lucky he had not taken the full brunt of the bite, but he knew better. Jerking as hard as he could, the stallion got his neck free of the mare's teeth but he watched a chunk of his mane get taken out in her teeth before he turned tail and fled. His large frame was no match for the onslaught of an angry mare and he held no want to lose more of his fur. For now, he would avoid the inlet for all it was worth and hide and clean his wounds in the lagoon.
