THE THING IN YOU THAT FEEDS THE ANIMAL IN ME
Intrigued was good. Kharin’s lips started to turn into a grin, but he was quick to temper it. He wanted to appear cool and collected; grown. He did not want to come across like he was - a colt-stallion still with years left to grow into himself. Though he may have been sparring at any chance he had or listening to his father’s lessons, he was still rather untried by reality. He had never actually faced a competitor who was fighting to keep what was theirs; had never tried to drive a frightened or angry horse from their home and into his. Kharin truly believed he was capable of it, but time would tell.
Kharin watched Siren’s Symphony as she glanced up at the sky, seeming to think over everything he had said. Then her eyes fell on him again and she gave him her proposal. The dangling promise of a sub-lead position made his dark blue eyes bright.
How does that sound?
This time he couldn’t help but smile, though it held a sort of sharpness to it; a bite. “That sounds like exactly what I was hoping to find,” he admitted, his grin growing a bit more. Still, there was one small matter of what she’d said that interested him. Kharin took the smile from his lips, eyes narrowing somewhat on her expression with studious curiosity. “What would you have me do that would prove myself worthy?”
Did she have some sort of enemy she wanted him to pester? Some kind of prize she wanted him to snatch away from somewhere else on her behalf? Kharin couldn't imagine a horse of her stature and obvious experience couldn't do these things herself. That was good, though. That just meant he was going to have to work that much harder to prove himself, and that's all he wanted. He wasn't interested in free handouts or easy tickets. He was going to earn his place in this world.
