We guys who went to AA are trained to tell on ourselves if it helps another addict.
Last AA meeting I went to, on my way out of town I stopped by to say bye, and bubbling, I shared that I took another guy's advice, went to TriCounty, free mental health, addiction svcs, they have doctors at the central office. He told me to get a script for Naltrexone, and after 10 years of struggling with cravings, my cravings ended within 10 days of taking those little pills that only cost me $30 a month. The shrink there said if I wanted, I could cut em in half and take em life long... they help with overeating and gambling addictions too. I didn't have those issues, but the only time I grab a celebratory drink is when I feel like it. One drink and then long periods of not drinking at all. I go to bars for pickup food, we have wine and beer for our guests, and I just don't need it any longer.
I told my AA friends, and the religious ones got pissed off and said I should be following the big book instead. Sure haven't MISSED those dry drunks since I left. Anybody says their only problem is drink and drugs is just uninformed.
Addictions are caused by unhappy people self-medicating. Go to a real place where they offer group therapy and all of em lead better lives. Ya dont have to go for the rest of your life either.
Took me ten years to quit listening to AA preachers and I went and got real help with today's anti addiction medications and it wasn't even a struggle. If ya struggle, heed my advice. See a real doctor. AA was a program written in 1934... treatment's much better today. Replies:
