IRE Investigative Reporters & Editors

The newspaper could run the ages, genders, locations of the last two years running, and age of suspect if any. And notations as to motive if knwn.

We must keep in mind that urban cities tend to show cluster locations and ages often indicating gang initiations or disputes between criminals who can't get justice from police or lawsuits.

I wouldn't get too alarmed about the bodycount if they're clustered; it either means a breakdown in the culture or gang/organized crime trends.

The FBI should have all that for multiple cities and run comparisons between KC and similar cities to note patterns. Wouldn't hurt to open the category beyond fatatalities to just shootings, given that proximity of high level health care may affect recovery vs death rates.

Now this would take some actual staff research and our corporate media may find that too much work. Ya can't usually get that assignment in a 9am editorial meeting and have it readfy for broadcast by 5.

But 30 years ago news outlets absolutely did think beyond the day's newscasts, back when they had staff and a decent rate card. And of course when we had a local paper that was thicker with ads than a Saturday shopper.
