My grandparents on my mother's side of the family celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the late 1960's. There was a family get together to celebrate the milestone. I was a teenager at the time but I still carry fond memories of the event. Decades later my cousin, who was into ancestory.com, informed me that my grandparents had been divorced for a short period of time before they decided to remarry. I asked her if anyone in attendance had known about the split. She informed me that the answer was yes, most of the family knew, but no one would have been so uncouth to have made mention of that.
