Winter was so close to being over that Nahawi began to grow uneasy. His talk with the gray colored stallion from before gave him the oomph he had needed, but he had been lost on what to do entirely. His red body had spent a lot of time rounding that of the Lagoon, but he had not seen much of his brothers as they were off doing their own thing. He wished to speak with them, but that would come when the others were around the Lagoon to speak with.
Heaving a breath, the red dun finally stopped forward movement and set his gaze upon the dimly lit sky. The sun was falling on the horizon to the west and it had the stallion almost wishing the sun would stay up. Lately the dark had been a dangerous place, his blue eyes always locked onto something moving in the shadows. Nahawi did not know who was out there, but the burley figure had made the Lagoon boss slightly uneasy. No one in their right mind would be fearless about everything and when something stood over him in the dark but never showed itself, he had the right to be afraid.
Shaking his head as he watched the horizon, Nahawi was about to move again when something barreled into his hind quarters. His body heaved forward and he soon enough stumbled onto the ground in the thick and sticky mud. His long mane flapped against his neck as he worked on righting himself in the brown sludge, but the large creature was upon him once more and he saw the faint glint of evening sunlight hitting large hooves. Holding in a cry, Nahawi tugged harder at the mud until he managed to escape the brunt of the hooves and weight headed for his shoulders and abdomen.
Tearing himself from the mud that held him like a vice grip, Nahawi set his blue eyes upon the figure that was haunting his dreams. Nahawi himself was large, he knew that, but this horse before him stood easily over his height and had a body so thick that Nahawi's ears pinned tight to his head as he glared at the hulking black beast. There was no telling what would come next, but Nahawi’s frame stood ready as suddenly time seemed to work in slow motion.
Eyes of lava landed upon Nahawi, his red body starting to prickle with goose bumps. A long black beard hung from the dark horses chin as the hulking figure moved with the power of his body right at Nahawi. His smaller frame allowed him to move, but there was a searing sensation of heat against his neck that had the red dun gritting his teeth as he looked at this dark figure that would not speak.
Playing a game of mouse, Nahawi avoided the heavy hitting punches, but he ended up coated in cuts and scrapes, his red frame more crimson in color that his normal fur. His face held a hint of fear, but the rising beast in his heart did not allow him to cower. Nahawi did not get the position he held just to lose it to a black monster. He was supposed to be a leader that stood on his own, but not everyone could handle someone larger than themselves where the ground was more slick than sturdy.
The lagoons foliage began to grow thicker though, supporting Nahawi’s idea as he drug the dark beast farther into the marshy territory. It would be difficult in these lands for a heavier horse to battle for when Nahawi’s hoof hit a solid piece of ground that did not flip under his frame, he pushed with his hind legs and began to run through the water near them. His head tucked lower before he wheeled on another sturdy piece of ground. The horse he was up against was stuck in the belly deep water, his frame not lithe enough to escape the churning water that was growing muddier in the depths.
Baring his blunt teeth, Nahawi’s red stained frame continued to go in a zig zag like pattern against this other horse. He would strike and take a blow here and there, but soon enough the two stallions were rearing with ears pinned and screams echoing in the now night clad Lagoon. The sound of thumping hooves echoed in the silent territory as both stallions tried to get the upper hand.
