Re(4): Any Details?

I've noticed that as well. TV people always read the Star before going round the room trying to think up stories for the day. The challenger was to read an enterprise story and think up a second day lead for that night.

That didn't happen in the 70s and 80s when TV stations had beat reporters. Those were the best of times because we could enterprise what we wanted and what sources had leaked to us. Producers who never got out of the newsroom always got their stories chosen, often out of Redbook or some magazine they thumbed through.

Nowdays its all low hanging fruit and in smaller markets, it's one news release after another put to video plus the obligatory 3 weathercasts every half hour.

I don't bother with local news at all. And I've also noticed they don't respond to the phone with story ideas, especially economic ones that affect their viewers. When I'm out and about, I still talk to people and get good ideas but there's no one to take the idea or even go out and put it to videotape.

ONe of the best questions you can ask is "What keeps you up worrying at night?" Everybody's got a story in their heads and the best way to find out about it and get honesty is when you ask WITHOUT a cameraman standing next to you. That intimidates people who would like to tell you a secret.
