eydís
It was quieter here, in the Falls, than it had been in the Harbor. The sound of birds had been something she had grown accustomed to, despite her original hesitance with such a strange home. She'd come to love the Harbor, and raised her son there. Sigurd's disappearance had been incredibly difficult on her and Aegir, he had looked up to his father a great deal. Hillevi, the second, had done what she could to protect them all in the stallion's absence but she had only been able to do so much. The splashed mare had stepped aside when a stranger had come to claim the land, as there was nothing left to be done.

Eydís, who had once been all blush and smiles, was a shadow of her former self. Her striped coat was marred in the occasional scar now that she'd had to fight on her own for so long. She was not foolish enough to enter the Commons, but that did not mean the rest of the Crossing was without challenge. She'd chased off her fair share of stallions with bared teeth and a swatting tail. In the heat of the season she had fallen prey to her instincts. She had no connection to the father, or the filly for that matter. Even her relationship with Aegir had become strained, despite the love she had for her first child.

She lay alongside a small lake, watching the falls crash into the basin. It was familiar, like the Harbor. Despite everything she longed for that peaceful happiness again. To feel safe, and happy, and cared for. Truly Eydís was not a difficult mare, or at least she hadn't been. She shook her neck, her thick curly brown hair cascaded haphazardly down on either side, framing her face in shadows. She looked down at her reflection in the gently rippling waters, examining the tired lines across her face with a frown. She'd once been so much more than she was now. Hurt, betrayed, angry, ashamed, guilty. The emotions that danced in her head was like an ongoing war in her mind and she splashed a hoof into the water, disrupting the mimic as she pointedly looked away.

That was more than enough of that.

i think i saw you in my sleep, darling
