i dream in phosphorescence

𖤓

The stallion noticed the vivid shade of the mare’s eyes once she turned to set her gaze upon him. Then, as she turned to cast a smile in his direction, he noticed the curious white spotting on her face. Like most young males, he was fond of and intrigued by pretty faces. However, Helios did not let this take him in alone. It was the way she held herself when greeting him: a graceful, set determination to find a safe home for herself and her child.

The Arabian nodded once as she went on after introducing them and their cause, his heart softening to them. What sort of heartless wretch would he be to deny shelter and safety to a wandering mother and child? Helios would have taken them in on principle alone, but the fact that Hedera knew her way around herbs gladdened him. The healing arts fascinated him, and perhaps this would be a way for them to get to know one another.

In the lands Helios had come from, having a healer was a great boon, and to be one yourself was a great honor. It took time and training to know what could heal and what would kill. Growing up, Helios had tried to learn what he could from snatches of talk here and there. Overall, it hadn’t amounted to much knowledge, but it had come in handy on making the long journey here to know which herbs could waylay thirst and hunger.

“My lands are open to you both, Hedera, free of boundary and condition. You may travel or leave as you see fit. I would not force you to join the main herd though I would be lying if I said I did not wish you to.” A small smile twisted at his lips as he continued. “I would hope that you treat and heal others here, but I will not condemn you if you do not.”
