She’d taken her leave of the little thruple family after she’d been sure that Chati would no longer be felled by weakness after a difficult double-birth. It had been a whole season since the grand event, but Tanhua had seen how even her skills had not saved her first daughter. It was a powerful expression of Fate, losing ones first child when you’ve been so successful in keeping hold of the lives of so many others’ children as they took their first breaths.
The waves of the shore of Sanctuary feel strangely soothing, as though her body knows them as different from other shores. They are gentle as they sweep her in, as they use their rolling breakers to settle her on her feet where the water was knee deep and harassed her not at all with barraging siblings behind her. The surf is gentle, she muses, finding herself growing only more and more wearied as she neared the foliage that bordered the jungle.
She stops beneath a low, but enormous, frond and sinks to the sand. She had been traveling a full year and had only heard of the changes in leadership from afar. She was sure Sarira still held the reins of the place she now lay, true, but she was not certain the leadership above that was as well informed. She tucks herself away until she hears the thrashing of legs in the surf and her head pokes out from the greenery to see who it might be that disrupted the peace of the Sanctuary beach.
