may the gods have mercy on my enemies.
because i won't.
Oh brother! she squeals and kicks out at her older brother with her front fore nothing will happen! I promise she tries to convince him that she would be safe. Luthien is the SAFEST place that they could call home. No wolves prowled beneath bending tree boughs nor were their jungle cats stalking along the tops of the canopy. The worst thing she had seen was a slithering snake with a rattling tail - who curled its self up - hissed and rattled then (as if it knew she was no threat) slithered on away. That was the worst! But he continued to lecture her about potential threats like tornadoes and other stallions... she found her thoughts wandering on the warm summer breeze. What if she were like a butterfly who's wings were brilliantly colored and as light as a feather? Or like the tree as it bent too and fro dancing in the summer's breeze?
His exasperated huff and a snort draws her from her ceaseless daydreaming and back to his BORING warning labels that he insisted on putting everywhere. "Mother and father both entrusted you to me... and if something happened to you who do you think they would blame? he asks with a stomp of his feathered hoof in the dust. "You..." Eva answers with a roll of her eyes. He is so dramatic AND annoying AND vexing. He just doesn't want her to have any fun! "I'll stay within the borders! Now can I go?" And without waiting for his answer, she spins on her hind hoof and bolts away from him as fast as she could.
Her hooves rip through the tender grasses as she beelines toward the border, her green eyes set on where the thicket ends and the prairie begins. She knew that she could at-least just look over the line AND not cross - that wasn't breaking his silly little rules. Slowing to a halt just at the edge of the imaginary border, she longing looks out at the vast prairie that stretches in either direction. Waist deep grasses wave gently with the wind in long rolling sheets, lonely trees sparsely dot the hills and ... wait what is that? She squints against the bright light, as far off, horse-like shapes draw her emerald gaze. She would be a terrible neighbor if she didn't at-least go and introduce herself.
And she was not a terrible neighbor, so without any further thought, she crosses the imaginary line and trots across the grasslands until the voice of a girl halts her in her tracks.Hello there! The voice is friendly with no malice, so of course she does not react and turn tail to run back home. No instead, a smile spreads across her lips as emerald eyes meet the girls. "Hello," Eva answers with a nod of her head. "I''m from the Thicket AND I wanted to introduce myself to our neighbors. My name is Evadne," she says with a little bow of her head. Did she introduce herself as a daughter of King Solomon and Queen Daciana? Or was that too much on the first meeting...
