Helios quietly looked on as Hedera nodded and touched the filly adoringly. He wondered just how far they had gone to find a fresh start. Had it merely been from the Crossing Isle? Or beyond? It mattered not. He knew that. His brown eyes lingered on Hedera's uniquely speckled face as her gaze drifted past him to the land beyond. It would be a significant adjustment if the pair were used to greener, wetter lands. Hedera had likely already considered this, but Helios briefly mused on how much she might know of these islands they now lived on.
He offered the dark mare a smile and moved to turn to lead them inland. His bulk shifted to one side, giving the girls a large berth to come and join him on this newer, shorter journey into the Dunes. Here, Hedera and Saucer would learn the harshness and beauty of desert life. They would come to enjoy the heat and shifting sands, the sounds of the night that outweighed the day's. Here, they could be a part of a family, a herd just beginning to grow and take root in the territory. And Helios was grateful. Now, he would lead them to the nearest oasis and show them some of the delights that awaited.
