Yesterday, FTVLive told you that Scripps CEO Adam Symson kicked Senior VP of News, Sean McLaughlin out the door.
In his memo, Symson said McLaughlin’s job had been eliminated.
But why?
Hasn’t Scripps and Symson been telling the staff and public how the research was good and the “news initiative” was doing well? He claimed that ratings stayed the same and in some cases even went up. It was all working.
So, if that was all true, why did McLaughlin catch the blade?
Because the research was bullshit, FTVLive’s research told us that when it came to the “news initiative,” the employees hate it, the viewers hate it, and clearly, the stock market hates it.
Look, you can talk to many Scripps employees, and they will tell you they’re happy that McLaughlin is gone. He wasn’t well-liked, and several staffers told FTVLive he was an “asshole.”
Now, Kate O’Brian is in charge, but what changes?
Is Scripps still going to pre-record newscasts? Are Anchors still being cast aside for MMJs?
“As news employees, if there was a fire you might want to know what caused it, if it is out, and what steps are being taken to avoid future ones. I didn't see anything other than: Sean is out, Kate is in, and the initiative moves on,” a Scripps staffer said to FTVLive.
Kate O’Brian needs to step up and tell the employees what’s next. Right now, the staff is just as confused as they have been.
