Goldenrod

Silence greeted her ears for a faint while, its gentle caress pulling at her. Goldenrod listened and waited though, her light built frame watching the distant horizon from where she stood. Honey gold eyes blinked for a fraction of a second and while they were closed the sound of hooves finally filtered through the air and let her eyes as they opened set upon the stallion she had followed. A faint smile curled her lips, but the pale mare did not speak for the first beat of time together. She let him speak, to fill the air with his voice, but she just continued to stand there like a statue as he moved to stand between her and her way to escape. Sadly, he did not realize she was here for him, for his queen, and that of his home.
Slowly turning her head after a bit, Goldenrod set her gaze upon him and gave a faint shrug. “I do not know you, but I know of the queen that lives here.” Word traveled if you listened and Goldenrod was well trained on being silent and patient. She had come here for him mostly, yes, but he was not her only reason. She had watched the red mare run off and then he vanished back here where she followed. She had waited and took her time in coming here and now she had the chance of a lifetime for someone that would wish to learn and grow beyond their meager starting of a horse.
“I come to learn, to train, and to grow.” She spoke, her tail lashing against her hocks before she dipped her head. “I am Goldenrod.” Her name, a plant. Goldenrod the flower was toxic to the very creature she was and many others. Horses were killed eating Goldenrod and it gave her name a double meaning. She could be gorgeous and so on. However, Goldenrod would rather be the toxic blade that this territory wielded whenever they needed, as long as they gave her the chance.
