In the silence of the night, Finley’s mind was the loudest. It kept him up most hours after the sun had set, and only quieted as the sun would rise and he would be too exhausted to care. It had been like this for as long as he could remember, but when he had lived alone it did not matter what hours he kept. In truth, it hardly mattered now, as he would prowl the Paradise jungles alone and leave the herd and its matriarch to their own devices.


But things had changed….. and the insistence of his mind had gotten louder. Even during the day.


Finley knew his mood was foul. It radiated from every step he took, the way he held his ears and how his eyes narrowed in a glare. But he couldn’t take it any longer. Couldn’t bear to listen to his own nagging voice that reminded him of all the things he had done wrong. Of the things he was going to do wrong in the seasons before. There was only one that had the chance of shutting it all up. Of letting him find peace long enough to actually sleep. Finley only hoped that she could.


He only needed to find Snapdragon first.
