i'm stuck somewhere between mourning and dancing

The white splashed mare could only watch the girl with well-meant amusement. Encelia had been nervous to approach her; that much had been obvious. Sinaet didn't know, of course, how deeply that predisposition ran. Yet her eyes beheld the younger girl settle into her own skin as she elaborated more about the story between Canis and herself.

It seemed good fortune in Sinaet's eyes that the two had found each other so soon after leaving home. Canis, too, had left home of his own volition and not returned. The maternal place in Sinaet wondered after Encelia's own mother. Events had led Sinaet to find her son, but what of Encelia's parents? The bay assumed she had had more than a large stroke of luck to be reunited the way they had been rather than go on without answers. She wouldn't ask why Encelia didn't want to go back; it wasn't her place. Though she did wonder.

"It is certainly an interesting climate." Sinaet responded with a small smile, but not without a note of something akin to homesickness. She'd spent so long on Salem that Sinaet had forgotten about snow and anything green but the cacti or rock nettles. The hard shift in climates hadn't been expected, and, if she was totally honest, it was an unwelcome development. So much had changed within the last two years, the last thing Sinaet wanted to do was shiver in a cave through the winter. But to be here with her children, alive and safe, how could she be ungrateful for her circumstances?

"We did live in the Desert, but that was before. . Canis' father died." The mare couldn't help the quiet that overcame her. The day she found his body had changed everything, and Sinaet supposed she wasn't quite ready to talk about it yet, even with the lovely Encelia. Sinaet shook her head slightly as if to dismiss any thoughts relating to Rougaru from her mind. "I always found it quite lovely. The Desert. I find myself wishing for the dry heat often these days," she said, a low laugh trailing her words.
