but darling, what if you fly? open

"You aren't hiding very well," Roux called out boredly to the shape that had approached and then hesitated in the shelter of the thick treeline. She had no idea who it was, nor did she particularly care. There was a certain sort of complacency that came when you were a part of a herd, she found. It had been different living beneath her father as a girl because the world had seemed so new and exciting back then that she'd always found something to do. Somehow, chasing butterflies held far less allure now than it used to.

She shifted in the pool she'd been relaxing in, sending ripples of blue-tinted water to disrupt the water lilies scattered across the surface. Autumn wasn't as warm as summer, but she felt herself flushing at the most random times and entertaining thoughts that she should not, and so often sought a cool bath to restore balance to her body and mind. Today had been one of those occasions, and she'd only just entered and half-submerged herself when she'd noticed that someone else was near.

Far from making her ashamed, it only piqued her curiosity. Her days had become quite dull as of late, and there were only so many times she could wander through the jungle before it all started to look the same. "It's big enough for two," she said lazily, then lowered her muzzle to skim along the surface, chasing away the small surface water skippers that darted from her shadow.

The ambient air was warm and humid, one of those heavy days where summer takes a last final stand before fading away entirely. Soon winter would bring the constant drumming of rain on the canopy and the feeling of being perpetually damp (very different than this luxurious lounging), and she was not looking forward to it. For now, she was determined to enjoy this last little bit of pleasant weather before it all changed again.
