The rolling waves rose and receded on the sands. Their froth and foam washing over the various rocks that littered the beach, uprooting some and dragging them back into the sea. The curve of the Arabian stallion’s ears twisted toward the stranger as the words sounded through the air and milling rush of the surf. Helios listened patiently without interruption.

He knew little of the Lagoon and the men who called the tropical region home. Antares had told him some things about the land, but Helios assumed it to be much like the roving bands of brothers -- his brothers -- that littered the countryside he had left behind. If these Lagoon men were anything like them, the chestnut knew it would be better to have others on his side while also keeping from attracting any of their attention.

The flaxen-haired male stood quietly, his dark eyes never leaving the shape of the red man’s body. A single ear twitched as he considered the proposition. It would be foolish of him to turn down an olive branch offered so willingly. Yet, his gut nagged at his senses. Every move the Arabian had made so far in ruling the Dunes had had unintended consequences. Would the benefit here be greater than whatever well-intentioned chaos might follow?

The Shore was on another island entirely; Helios had to wonder why he was seeking allies on other islands? Had he united with the other rulers on his island and decided to continue on with proffering friendships? Had he been denied alliances there and been forced to seek help on Salem? And more importantly, was Helios inviting trouble to visit the Dunes if he accepted? There was no way for him to know this, of course. It didn’t stop the russet male from hoping that enough forethought might help him down the line.

After a few long minutes, the stallion shifted, his dished profile bobbing slightly in the low light. ”I’ll admit I’m inclined to accept your offer, Nahawi, but, if you pardon my directness, I wonder if you expect trouble.” The length of his tail brushed over his hocks as it swished back and then forth. ”We have not had an easy time here, you see, and I am hesitant to invite more trouble to my shores."
