You need to use your OWN name when you bytch about your bosses. Jim thinks I'm the only one who trashes media management and it ain't so. In fact I used to work there. That was two ownerships ago. Everyone who was there then has to be gone now. IF not, mgt is just trying to figure out how to get rid of them and not get sued for age discrimination. I'm sure I was way too expensive for what desk people do today, just answering the phone and making check calls. I dont even think they call em 'assignments', because they don't assign. Now they're just 'deskers' and probably don't even attend morning meetings. Today, News Directors choose their mgt teams; I've noticed its common to hire the ND from out of town and they bring their entourage with them from whatever smaller market--exec producer and other senior staff. It's good to have somebody who knows the city but if s/he's been there too long they do tend to get a little stale in their creativity. So all good stories ND's and EP's DID do at their last market, they just do again in THIS ONE.
So which of the four stations here will decide at the home office to drop news? I figured what Scripps is doing is long overdue. Replies:
