Asmodeus watched his sister's monochrome body disappear against the horizon for only as long as necessary to ensure she would not turn back. When she was finally gone, he turned his attention inland again, scouring the scrubland for any sign of other life.

It was quiet, as it often was, which should not have been surprising but felt unnatural given the momentous changes in his life in the past few hours. How could everything be the same when it was fundamentally different?

Asmodeus strode into the Desert - into his Desert - at a jog and lifted his patchwork head into the air to scream his dominance over the land. He did not know if Nyimara would return to his side, or if she - and by proxy their son - would be forever lost to him, but he was not about to sit around and let this opportunity pass him by. If he was smart, if he was careful, he could grab this opportunity and make sure that no one - not his sire, not his dam, not strangers - would ever take him for granted again.
