I can relate a little tale for you along those lines. When I first joined the Police, straight from the Army. I was assigned, as is normal, a Tutor Constable to oversee my introduction to Police duties. As to be expected, I soon attended my first ' sudden death ' and as a consequence was required to attend my first ever Post-Mortem at the local hospital. Prior to my attendance my then Tutor Constable gave me a little ' pep talk ' and advice on what to expect.
The PM went ahead, with us both in attendance, and quite frankly I found it utterly fascinating. I asked the pathologist numerous questions, which he readily answered, and was clearerly pleased that I, " showed an interest " in his work. 😊
The Tutor Constable however called me a sick bas****. Thereafter word got around, and I seemed to get more than my fair share of post mortems to attend!
Having only recently served in NI and come across many a dismembered body, it didn't bother me....nor to this day. The Woolworths fire in the 1970's was particularly gruesome along with the suicides in the Heaton Park rail tunnel.....selfish individuals who expect others to clean up the mess they leave behind!!
