but darling, what if you fly? Posted on June 12, 2024 at 02:20:30 AM by Roux
It turned out that living beneath a mare was as boring as Roux had expected it to be, and she tried not to chafe at the knowledge. It was supposed to be a good thing that Snapdragon's regular presence kept would-be marauders at bay, that she'd had no interaction with anyone interesting since that mysterious young stallion, that she hadn't once been challenged for or chased or flirted with.
A. Good. Thing.
Except it led to a sense of apathy she could not shake. A complacency that kept her hidden in the shadows, growing lazy and chubby on the late spring grasses. A bone-deep boredom that kept her locked in the same routine while grumbling about having a routine at all.
A rare summons broke the air and her ears twitched toward it with no great enthusiasm. She had no greater wisdom to share with Snapdragon than she had the first time, nor did she think the painted mare needed it, considering how quiet things had been as of late. No one had even breached their shores since before the last autumn, and it wasn't as though the painted mare were bringing home lots of new members either. They'd achieved status quo, and Roux had gone into hibernation.
"You called?" She drawled as she stepped from the warm embrace of the jungle onto the relatively balmy bluff that Snapdragon had chosen. Her child bumbled about not far away and Roux's eyes swept over her briefly before returning the matriarch that had claimed her by proxy, her expression neutral.
