The sun burns brightly overhead in cloudless blue skies, warming the endless sands of the Dunes. Solaire’s spindly legs carry her swiftly through the sands, flagging her tail as she bounds along. She was thrilled that the summer heat had returned. While winter was far different in Salem, she missed the particular intensity of the summer sun that the Dunes enjoyed. Her time spent in the Badlands made her miss the warmth of the sandy drifts of her home. Velcroed to her mother’s side, she missed her father and the wonder of the dunes. The craggy, cactus-filled Badlands were nothing compared to the soft sands she was born unto.
The Badlands were behind her, now. In years to come, it would be a blip of a memory. She had returned home with a partially shed fluffy coat, which was particularly inconvenient when her only life experiences were in lands that experienced little to no winter. However, Solaire was rid of her foal coat and now was dark copper that glimmered in the sunlight. Solaire tosses her head and gives a playful buck, hooves churning up a spray of orange sands. Her lanky legs carry her petite frame in bounds across the sand drifts. She descends from the crest of a sand drift and toward an oasis, where she dips her white-snipped muzzle into the waters for a refreshing drink.
