It had been a pleasurable summer for the herd, despite the natural heat of the desert and the glaring absences of Vàna and Daffodil. To think of the golden mare he'd promised to keep safe still within the clutches of those brutish goons stirred like a violent heat in the Arabian's gut.
Daffodil's departure had been an insult to injury, though Helios knew the blow was not aimed at him, but at her lover Romaro. He did not envy the man for specifically rousing the wrath of the dark stallion called Lucifer, but the chestnut despised how directly this feud was affecting him and his family.
The copper-toned male had just decided to do something about the mares when a call came from across the Dunes. Helios knew well enough that it sounded from the direction of the Desert, Nyimara's domain. However, the tones of the voice that reached him did not seem like her own.
It was with a curious caution that the arabesque male came to meet with the stranger. When he caught the scent of the stallion on his approach, Helios relaxed some. He recognized the paint as one that frequently littered the border between the two territories, even if they had not had the occasion to meet face-to-face before now. It seemed the time had come.
The mass of his head tilted downward in a nod to acknowledge the other male. Ideally, this meeting would not result in some sort of feud or skirmish as things had with Raegar a year ago. "You're one of Nyimara's men," he related, getting straight to the point. "Tell me: has something happened to her, or is this merely a courtesy visit?"
