bacardi
surrounded by darkness yet enfolded in light
As Bacardi looked out across the salty water, his gaze was distant and unfocused. His mind reliving the moments they had swam back to the islands from the mainland, where he had gone to look for his father. It had been a failed quest, and despite the fact neither Twinge nor Soraya complained, Bacardi had known they missed the islands just as he did. This harsh reality and grief made the stallion realize that he could no longer be distant with Twinge, even if he did not know how to fix it. Right now, his mind was too clouded with grief to give it any sort of deep thought. So, he let the notion go, knowing he would have give himself some time before he could think clearly enough to figure out a solution.
The sound of hoof steps upon the sand behind him made Bacardi blink his golden gaze back into focus. One black rimmed ear tilted towards to the visitor, before her soft touch caused him to turn his head and peer back at Marlowe. He should have known his gentle daughter would feel so strongly about this death as well. Soraya had been there for her entire life. Giving a heavy sigh, Bacardi let his gaze return to the sea momentarily, before he twisted back to give Marlowe a comforting touch.
“We will see her again, someday.” he murmured softly.
“Always keep that in mind.” Because someday he too would be gone.
In the corner of his eye, Bacardi caught sight of Voyager, standing just on the edge of the treeline. He wasn’t alone for long, as Roamer joined him in her own grief and Amarinora joined Bacardi and Marlowe upon the beach. Pulling away from one daughter to comfort the other, Bacardi felt the pain ease inside his chest. There was still plenty of love left in the Forest, even if there was a void left in his heart.
