my thoughts (edited 7/13)

Twins Dibs
1. What are your general thoughts on this topic? Do you feel as though the current system is fair and balanced?
Reflecting on it now I do not believe the current system is fair and balanced, because as pointed out twins are usually scooped up by people who have won them as perks in a contest, leaving those who don't want to or can't participate in contests left out.

2. Do you feel as though it would be fair to limit the number of twins dibs to one per season? This would leave the second pair of twins to be rolled naturally.
Yes, I believe limiting the number of twin dibs to one per season would be fair, and having it on a first come first serve basis as it is now.

3. Do you feel that it would be beneficial to raise the maximum number of twins per season to three? If we did so, the third twin would not be given out until the season mid-point and would be naturally rolled only. If so, how would you balance the rarity?
Between the option in question #2 and this one, I like #2 more, because it keeps the rarity. I think upping it to 3 would make it less exciting to get twins. But if we were to go with this method my suggestion would be to raise the twin rolls to 3, with 1 being given to twin dibs on a first come first serve basis, and the other 2 being given out naturally as they occur, regardless of where we are in the season. If by chance the 1 allotted twin dib does not get claimed for the season, it would not get used.

4. Include the possibility of death for the mare and/or foals? This would require players to intentionally opt-in when requesting foal stats. We considered basing the third as being dependent on the total number of breedings per season. However, the fear is that this would inadvertently encourage players to breed foals they don't intend to keep or play.
I dislike the idea of including a death roll, as getting twins shouldn't also come with the risk of losing your character. I understand the thought process but it just doesn't seem fair. I also agree that having the 3rd twin roll dependent on the number of breedings might encourage "junk foals" that are only used to get to that number to unlock the 3rd twin set.

5. Do you have any other thoughts or suggestions not covered by the above points?
None right now but if it changes I'll edit this post to add them <3

Away Protections
1. Do you think the way away protection currently works is fair? Are there any changes you would like to see?
Personally I do not think it is fair simply due to the fact that it's so easily exploitable. If timed right players could consistently get a month and a half of protection (standard 14 day grace period + going on away after 14 days is up) and that leaves territories sitting unused for long periods of time.

2. Which (if any) of the above solutions seem the most fair to you? Or do you have your own idea?
I am leaning towards suggestion #3 - requiring a minimum number of posts before a player can go on away again. I would also add that each post needs a minimum word count, and at least X number of those posts need to be made in their territory. I can see how this could lead to "junk" posts but the ultimate goal is to promote activity within the territory and I think this would help.

I am also highly in favor of bringing Cimarron island back, as I think it would greatly promote activity. Many players have shown a high interest in this but every time it is brought up it gets shot down by the mods, which feels a little disheartening as (to me) it feels like the players wants aren't being listened to. I understand it would create a little more work for the mods but i think if there is a desire to bring an additional island back, it should at least be considered. That, or making the islands have 5 territories as they used to be. I think this would also have the benefit of helping when an island chooses a democracy, because it would prevent 50/50 ties in voting.

All in all I think there should be additional considerations made for when players simply can't avoid going on away again without meeting these criteria, to keep things fair.
