Getting tired of Salem, she took her daughter and left for the Crossing. She felt like she had become stuck there since Sokar ran away following Scoripio's death. What happened to a better life? What happened to the trips that she and Sokar were going to take? Gone. It became clear that Sokar would not likely return to Salem, so she figured he mostly went North.

How far North did he go? Where exactly is he? Had there been any sightings? These questions plagued her mind and would not stop until he was found. Kachina doesn't know what she would do if he's dead. She has had no family since she was a foal. The mare can't stop thinking about her nephew. Is he okay? Is he alive? Does he know what's going on? Ch'usi would get excited about meeting them. But when? Kachina didn't want to let her daughter down.

The weather was a bit chilly, and the sky became busy with clouds, which prevented the sun from escaping for a little bit. Kachina noticed the green leaves turning into different colors and thought it was odd since it didn't happen in the desert. Kachina eyed her daughter, who stood right behind her. It's hard to believe that she's almost a yearling. Suddenly, Kachina's nostrils picked up a scent that wasn't Sokar's. She felt slightly disappointed and curious. Who was that? Lacking suspicion, she wanted to see. "Follow me." She said to Chu'si and she started to trot over to the equine, which wasn't far. She could see the equine start to appear and let out a nicker.
