Oh, you want battle?
I'll give you war.
She refused to submit, which would actually be kind of fun if it weren't for the fact that I could practically hear the siren going off in the Peak right now. They loved to stick their noses into things that didn't concern them. That was basically the only thing that brought their noses down from being stuck up in the air all the time, pretending that they were somehow different from the Lagoon.
They kept prisoners. They did heinous things. Just because they didn't have dicks didn't mean they weren't also villains. But hey, what did I know really?
The satisfaction of body checking her was short-lived. Almost as soon as I got my feet gathered up for another attack she was whirling around to launch her hooves at me. I grunted as one slammed into my shoulder, scuffing up the fur, and readjusted my course of action. Instead of coming at her from directly behind, I used her momentary lack of forward motion to bring myself alongside her body again so that her flying hooves hit the air beside my hip rather than anything vital.
I was looking forward to trying to fasten my teeth over her shoulder again when she suddenly changed her entire course of action. At first, I thought that she was trying to run and I hesitated to give her a tiny lead window so that I could pursue her. Then I saw the girl, and the grin on my lips broadened.
Like a magnet, my new prize clung to the child which told me exactly what I needed to know. I slowed to a predatory walk and began to circle them. Not because I really intended to rush the child, but because I enjoyed seeing the fear on Hiyori's face. The more worked up she got, the more certain I became of my eventual success.
"Come on now darling," I drawled, my eyes dark. "You know what the outcome is going to be. My brothers are out here all the time." I mean, I didn't know that for certain, but I could hope that it was one of my brothers who found us rather than one of the Peak matrons. "Here, I'll make you another deal, even though you don't really deserve it after you so rudely turned down my offer of help."
I let my gaze flick from the mare to her daughter and back. "Come with me nice and easy and I'll make you my companion. No other brothers will dare to harm either of you." This was, again, extremely presumptuous of me. I had no idea if I would succeed as Marauder or General, but if I did? Putting this little gem as my companion wouldn't harm me any. If I kept my word, of course. Plus, even if I wasn't elected, Garmr's rules said that I was more than owed my own personal mare at this point for all the new blood I'd brought in.
"And scout's honor," I said, drawing to a half halt and tipping my head toward her, though I had no real honor to my name, "I will get your little rugrat out when she comes of age."
