Stress left him anxious, hovering awkwardly near the edge of the Commons like a baby bird about to fledge from the nest, even though he was well into maturity. Today was different, however, and he had no idea whether he would be successful or not.
All he knew was that he didn't want to be alone anymore.
For a time, he had hoped to build a reputation on the Crossing as a healer, offering salves and advice to anyone with an illness or injury, but it turned out that few were willing to listen to an awkward loner stallion. It was not the same reception that his mother had received as a renowned healer, and over time, the rejections had begun to sting. It wasn't just that he didn't belong anywhere, but that he couldn't help anyone either. You couldn't exactly walk up to a stranger and ask if they were having problems, you had to wait for other horses to tell you, and if they didn't?
Then you were left standing there with nothing to do. No one to talk to. Nowhere to go.
For a long time, he had resisted the urge to come to the Commons because he was afraid that in being claimed, he would have to give up his hobby. If, he was even claimed at all. The odds of most random stallions being claimed seemed to be low, except for those men ushered - willingly or not - to the Lagoon. Now though, he was willing to risk that if it meant that he might not wake by himself, or watch the stars pass him by in the sky with no one left to care where he was.
Even so, Gecko is not well-versed in the art of finding a home. And so, as the lanky black stallion enters the Common, he finds the first creature and approaches them with an easy smile on his lips to hide the anxiety swirling in his eyes.
