Toland managed to stay surprisingly still as Seelie untangled the twigs from his mane. He had never experienced someone outside of the Forest being this close to him. It was just as new as his visit here to the Crossing. Being a young stallion, he had envisioned what it might be like, to go to the Commons or interact with a Lagoon stallion. None ever came close to this.
When the mare was all done and finally pulled away, Toland was flustered at the frown she presented him. After all that work, was she not satisfied with what she had done? Or perhaps it was something else she was making such an expression at? He had to fight the urge to look himself over, wanting to fix whatever it was that displeased her, but he also didn’t want to seem so self-conscious either. Apparently it wasn’t as bad as what Toland thought it might be, since she quickly turned her attention back to the falling water, and seemed to forget all about making a home for birds.
“Well…erm…” he started, as he took a few paces that would bring him to her side. Lifting his own gaze up, he looked to the water and the mountain above. Recalling the stories he had heard of the peak mares and what they stood for, Toland wondered if he was ever going to meet one? “The water isn’t going up, it’s coming down.” he explained. “It falls off the Peak, where warrior mares live, and lands here. That’s what makes the stream.” He glanced to the water as it drifted along among the trees, before his eyes once again found Seelie. “This territory is named the Falls, after this waterfall.” he gave a little smile. “Not very original, huh?”
