say my name the way a wolf howls at the moon

An explanation came from the stranger's mouth: exploration and old habits. The silver bay weighed these reasons against her own experiences. Though unfamiliar with the oppressive forces where he'd come from, Hemming had spent most of the first two years of her life skirting those who might set their sights on her or her mother. They'd avoided most other inhabitants from the Desert in the south clear to the Bay, here in the North. There had been more than just possessive stallions to steer clear of in the wilds of the islands.

He moved then, stretching and lumbering in a slow circle. A single ear twitched at the description of his homeland. It reminded her of Salem, of the Desert she should have been raised in, despite him reportedly not being of these islands as the young mare was. However, she says nothing. Hemming is silent as her emerald eyes follow the stranger through the darkness, the shape of him lost in the tree shadows as he comes full circle.

'Have you ever left your home? Have you ever wondered what else is out there?' The mare's dark lips twist into a smirk as she realized just how ironic his assumptions were to her lived experience. The tones that leave her mouth now as much the same as they were before with the added lilt of the humor of knowing something he did not. "I've seen many of the things these islands offer.

Hemming humors the foreigner by allowing a small, pale shaft of moonlight to reveal a portion of her face. It isn't much, but it would reveal the darkness of her face and some of the vivid color in her eyes. "You know what they say about assumptions, don't you?" The maiden lingered a moment longer in the glow before disappearing back into the shadows. Her tail swishes at the hush in the quiet."This isn't my first home, nor will it be the last."
