light in the darkness

Hearing Sidra call back to him, her voice floating among the trees, Bacardi felt a happiness fill him with warmth. The speckled mare was such a gentle soul and the stallion couldn't help but smile every time he found himself in her presence. But before she arrived, he heard a faint voice behind him. It caused him to pause, glancing over his shoulder to see the frail thing laying in a heap upon the ground where he had just passed.

Bacardi heard Sidra gasp out just as he turned to face the foal, feeling his companion brush against his side as she quickly came over so that they walked up to the little filly together. Bacardi's black rimmed nares flared to draw in her scent, but he didn't find anything recognizable.

"Will you go and find Syrah?" He asked Sidra, his golden eyes shifting over to her momentarily before looking back to the filly. He hadn't smelled any blood on her, so assumed she didn't have any wounds. Just malnourished and weak from being on her own for entirely too long. "She may still have some milk left from Crown Royal."

Lowering his head to the filly, he perked his ears forward and tried to look as friendly as possible. Which wasn't typically hard for Bacardi. "What's your name, little one?" He asked her, hoping she had enough strength to at least talk to him.
