A more headstrong mare would have challenged the exchange, but, as it happened, she had little qualm with the arrangement. With a small half-shake of her head, the Ranger mare elaborated. "I have no issue with whatever it is you and my brother had agreed upon, but I do ask for patience from you. My.." -- she faltered for a heartbeat, searching for an innocent enough word that could gloss over her trauma -- "trust has been trespassed upon before. It is difficult for me to open up, but, as my brother vouches for you, I am willing."
She hated thinking about that night when the moon disappeared and the crazed stallion had found her. With a soft snort to herself, Astarte tries to dismiss thoughts of that night and the resulting child. Instead, the dark mare turns to his question: how long had they been in Paradise? "My brothers and I been here for nearly a year and a half now, though we did see some of the other islands for a short time before that."
Her gaze followed his while she spoke, glancing upward at the boughs above their head and the reddening light that heralded the day's end. The skin upon her shoulders trembled slightly at the thought of nighttime when she'd just considered what had happened. Her lips pressed together slightly before Astarte returned her gaze to the male before her, desperately hoping that Carthage hadn't only been thinking of himself when he struck the bargain that decided her future.
