Meadow

The morning was crisp as the sun began to peek over the distant trees and the birds began to chirp their morning songs. Small brown ears twitched atop Bee's delicate head as she began to wake from her nightly slumber. Her dark lashes flutter as her eyes open, staring across the expanse of grass ahead of her. Most of the flowers had disappeared from the Meadow since the arrival of autumn, much of the surrounding trees boasting leaves in shades of orange. While Bee loved flowers, there was something very comforting about the color. It reminded her of her mother's burnt hues, and though it was getting cold she was swear she could feel her mother's warmth from her bed of fallen leaves. They rustled beneath her as Bee stretched out her legs with a big yawn, smacking her lips.

She closed her eyes briefly, enjoying the warmth of the sun on her striped back before she threw out a leg to pull herself to her feet. Bits of grass and leaf were shaken off before she set off across the field in search of water. This was a new area of the Meadow for her, but she figured if she followed her nose she could find a morning drink fairly easily. Most of the world around her was still asleep, and she had done her best to pass by the few families she had encountered as quietly as she could.

Upon reaching the edge of the stream, Bee dropped her head and drank greedily. So much so she did not even notice the other horse approaching until she lifted her head and saw their reflection rippling in the water across from her. She shifted her gaze upward, droplets of water falling from her whiskers as she cracked a smile. "Hi," her ears flicked forward, eager and interested. "I'm Bee!"
