when life gives you lines;

In my defense,
the moon was full
and I was left
unsupervised

Leaving the Bay wasn't nearly as hard for her as it appeared to be for Zurok given that her tie had always been to him, rather than to the land that he led. She wouldn't lie - the thought of being homeless made her a little uncomfortable - but she was mostly neutral about the move.

Even having to be close to the rest of the herd - Yael with her heavily pregnant belly and Galexia with her child standing as obvious and irritating testaments to the fact that Zurok loved more than just her - was somewhat tolerable given that they were headed somewhere new. It was a welcome distraction from the fact that her father had died recently and her birth family remained in chaos. The Cove was eerily silent, and she could feel his absence looming over her like a dark cloud.

As they settled and Galexia asked the obvious question, Margarita stayed quiet. She had never quite learned how to interact with the other mares, both in part because she was a jealous creature by nature, and because she'd never before had a need. Zurok wasn't really the type to call herd meetings and as of late, hadn't even really had time or energy to pay attention to her at all. She'd kept the girl to herself for the first night, but he hadn't even come to seek her out after, either.

As Parvati arrived, however, Margarita's countenance darkened. She remembered the fears and doubts she'd had about Zurok's connection to Parvati during Sangria's birth, and the warmth and delight on Parvati's face as she looked at Zurok only compounded those feelings. They curdled as he brushed his muzzle warmly against her own sister's shoulder, and then rotted as he spoke the most damning words he could have.

How are our children? Children. Parvati had had him not just once - which was bad enough - but multiple times. Multiple times her own lover had gone to her sister's bed of his own free will, and even now flaunted this connection in front of her as if it were nothing. The thought occurs to her that he might have gone to her and then curled up at her side for a night, as if nothing at all had happened.. Betrayal sparked in her eyes but she found her tongue still by the shock of it all as the revelations kept coming.

Granddaughter? They'd been involved for long enough that he had a granddaughter?

Normally so bold and outspoken, Margarita found she had no words. And then, immediately, decided that he didn't deserve them anyway. As a homeless bachelor he had no official claim to her anymore, and she was determined not to waste her time with such a lecherous, backstabbing, cheater of a stallion nor with her despicable man-hoarding, boundary-crossing sister.

Without a backward glance, the painted mare departed from the gathering and sped away. She had no idea where she would go yet, but she was certain she could not stay there. Not with him. Not with her. Not with any of it. She had too much self-respect to lower herself to side-mare status with her own mate.
