CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. The end of an era?

In 1950 it would take about 5 weeks to sail on a posting to FARELF. In April 1950 we,1LF, were put on standby for a tour in Cyprus changed a couple of days later to Malaya on the MV Eastern Prince. We eventually were told it was unaccompanied to Egypt. We sailed from Southampton on 17 April on the SS Empire Fowey a splendid troop ship 20000 tons with a crew of 350 able to carry 25000 troops. It took 11 days to reach Port Said a real cruise, good food, cheap booze etc. We even stopped mid way in the Med and lowered boats and had a swim, no health and safety problems for the Captain. On the Canal we lined the banks one day to cheer 1 Kings on their way to Korea. happy men on the ships rails of the SS Devonshire not knowing 20 would not be coming back with 200 others wounded. Three years later we sailed back from Mombasa in another splendid ship for a 15 day cruise home. Then came in air trooping. 5 days to Singapore landing at Malta, Beirut, Bagdad, Karachi, Deli, Bangkok and Singapore, I could have walked faster. 3 years later on the way home we were stuck in Bagdad for a week engine problems.
Where have all those lovely troop ships gone I wonder? I could go on!
