Were it not for EBS with is just another form of automation, radio has diminished use, just like most of us.
It was a big mistake, getting rid of news because there's nothing left about repetitive music and repetitive ads to pay for it.
News forced radio to hire enough staff to provide some value added by telling us what's going on in our world--an element of interest though much of it is not good news. Today, it's basically just an electronic vending machine. TV is more so, and more interesting because we are visually oriented---but it is so expensive.

We cut the cable saving $160 a month but had to buy some better TV's and antennas. In a few months those will be paid off because right now TV's are a bargain. You can buy a 50 inch Westinghouse Roku TV at Best Buy for abt $275 including a big inside antenna.
Roku programs are free but most people will buy abt $50 a month for addon subscriptions like Netflix and another movie channel or two. That's better than $250 a month for all that shit on cable ya dont watch.
We still have $100 for high speed internet tho which brings us all the free TV and PC programming to entertain us.
The nice thing about ROKU TV's is your down to one controller and OvertheAir and Roku programs are on one controller and you dont' have to switch source from antenna to Internet all the time. I get 50 channels in two TV markets on antenna but only a half dozen are worth watching. With Netflix and Prime, that's plenty of movies and on the networks, that's plenty of football a week.
At my age, I watch a lot of news and movies and internet, except that the networks have really dumbed down TV for the same reason radio did...to cut costs and increase profits. Theres not much on affiliate TV anymore, as you know.
Sadly for you radio types the music's much better on the Internet and TV and virtually commercial free. "Live and local" used to mean something until automation and the internet came along.
So many choices and they dont compete with each other for the same ears. A lot's changed in home delivered media, huh?
