This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Fantastic Post Maurice & as Usual backed up with an Encyclopedia of Facts Information & PhotoGraphs by Geoff.Montgommery & Wavell had Served in WW1 together so there was a'Bit of Rivelry going on between both Generals ie; Wanting the Attention of Churchill & the Lions Share of Men & Units & WPNS+AMMO + Equipment + Petrol + Artillery + Aircraft & Money.Hence Montgomerys Ficious & Ungentlemanly Quip.Paddy Mayne was Recommended by All Concerened for a VC for Dispatching an awful Lot of German Soldiers one afternoon,Alone he Drive 1 Mile along a LuftWaffe Runway & Firing 1 of the 2 30mmCal Brownings on board at Same Time into more than 200 German Soldiers of whom were in the Process of Routing the remaining SAS Sqn Members & their Jeeps in their getaway,Paddy Mayne then turned the SAS Jeep around & Drove it the 1 Mile back down LuftWaffe Runway whilst Firing the 2nd 30mmCal at the Attacking Germans while his SQN were Escaping. The War Office Desk Flyers'turned the Recommendation Down because the Escaping SAS Sqn Members couldn't exactly pin point their position on the LuftWaffe Runway to Verify Maynes Heroic Action that Ultimatly Saved the Lives of The SAS Sqn that day.
So he was Awarded a 3rd Military Cross instead.The SAS formed a Committee to Challenge the War Office & Pointed out that Pin Pointing Ones Postion'while Driving Away & Ducking not only From German Bullets but also Captain Maynes 30mm Browning Bullets is very Dificult but on the OtherHand they Could Pin Point the Dead German Positions Caused by Captain Maynes Heroic Act & would Assist The War Office in any search for Such Evidence.
It Fell on Deaf Ears unfortunately.I must add the Bravery of the LF Chindits under the Command of Brigadier Windgate has no parallel in History.
