i dream in phosphorescence

It was only for a heartbeat that Helios realized that maybe, just maybe, Avery had not come here for him. She could have been simply lost somehow, overestimated the distance from wherever she had been to her home in the Badlands. Before his heart and hopes had a chance to fall back to earth from the stratosphere, the mare said that she had missed him, too.

Almost preoccupied with his own relief as at her admission, Helios still noticed the crumpled expression on Avery's face. Apologies tumbled from her lips, eliciting a sympathetic look to come across his coppery features. His ashen lips downcast into a frown.

A need passed through his body to comfort her, to brush aside all of the fears and solitude Avery had been living with since last they spoke. “But I couldn’t," she admitted. "I couldn’t stop thinking of you.” Without another thought, the flaxen-haired stallion would make to close what space there was between them and embrace her.

He wanted to sling his head about her neck and pull her into him, as if his own warmth could seep up every hurt Avery had experience. "You have nothing to apologize for. I.." -- he nearly pulled himself away for the surge of regret pulsing through him -- "I asked so much of you. I'm the one who should be asking for forgiveness, for putting you through so much."
